Chase Hall Terrace at Bates College

Lewiston, Maine

 

MBLA collaborated with Canal 5 Studio on the renovation of this historic student center building and terrace. The new courtyard is directly connected to the “den” cafeteria, providing an outdoor space for socializing, studying, casual dining, and small campus events.  The design utilizes modular pre-cast concrete seat wall sections that can be re-used in future campus projects. Existing cast concrete pavers were also re-used in the design. The terrace features a group of red maples set in a panel of pea stone, offering shade and an intimate area to gather. The terrace drains to the trees to reduce the need for supplemental water.
