House on Little Deer Isle

Deer Isle, Maine

This exquisite home straddles a small, southwest facing meadow and a precipice along the rocky coastline overlooking west Penobscot Bay. MBLA worked closely with the architects to fit the building to the sloping site and designed the half-mile long drive that wends through the various woodland environments and distinctive topography of the 33-acre parcel. The arrival sequence proceeds through an abandoned apple orchard (now rejuvenated) to a framed view of the home and on to a sweeping view out to the ocean. Meticuloulsy detailed terraces and native plantings transition gracefully to the existing landscape.
