Martha's Vineyard House

Though near the sea, this home is strategically tucked into a wooded hillside and protected from ocean breezes. The slipping, overlapping forms of the building form a warm, secluded courtyard that is part arrival court and part outdoor living and dining space. A series of cut granite walls echo the building forms to create partitions between parking and courtyard and establish boundaries and sub-rooms of the court. The walls also guide arrival to the front door through the enclosed courtyard. On the ocean side, a broad, sculpted meadow forms a serene foreground to the scrub oak forest and vista to Vineyard Sound.
