Stone Court Villa

Phoenix, Arizona

This desert residence emphasizes the contrast between the raw, native desert and the refined geometries and materials of the architecture. In the carefully composed arrival sequence, the driveway traverses the rough desert and terminates in a formal, enclosed, stone-paved entry court featuring a grove of native mesquite trees and reflecting pool. A series of courts – used for dining, lounging, yoga and entertaining – are seamlessly integrated into the building, each carefully designed to optimize privacy, qualities of light, and views of the nearby desert and distant mountains.
