Calhoun Residence Hall

University of Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Ohio

The site design for the spaces around Calhoun Hall is part of a larger effort by the University to renovate and expand the southwest corner of campus known as the Calhoun District. A primary goal of this renovation project is to improve the circulation at the residence halls and enhance the student experience. A series of terraces, both planted and occupiable negotiate the twenty foot grade change between Calhoun Street and the lower plaza at Siddall Hall. At the Calhoun entrance level, the terrace merges with a large entry plaza creating a flexible, vibrant space with ample seating to gather and socialize including an overlook to the north towards campus. Timeless and durable materials are proposed for the spaces to create a cohesive identity and easy maintenance.
